Callcredit warns online shoppers to keep their personal details wrapped up this Christmas

As the busiest time of the year for internet shopping gets into full swing, festive shoppers are warned to be on their guard against online fraud and bogus retail websites.

New research released today by the credit and fraud experts at Callcredit Information Group reveals that although 76 per cent of web users will be buying Christmas gifts via the internet this year, a large number of them are running the risk of their personal details falling into the hands of unscrupulous fraudsters, who then run up debts in their name.

Know Your Candidate teams up with Callcredit

Employee vetting firm Know Your Candidate Ltd has enlisted the help of Callcredit Information Group to deliver its candidate verification service.

Callcredit is providing Know Your Candidate with a managed service that processes employee records in bulk and produces easy-to-understand credit reports. The data includes separate files for employees who have court judgements and insolvencies, allowing Know Your Candidate to quickly identify relevant results and report back to their clients.

Autonet signs deal with Callcredit

Leading van insurance broker Autonet has signed up to use Callcredit Information Group’s identity verification software to help combat the rising problem of insurance fraud.

The tool allows Autonet, the UK’s largest independent van insurance broker, to check that those applying for insurance are who they say they are – protecting both the business and existing customers from the actions of fraudsters. The wider use of motor insurance comparison sites has contributed to increased incidents of insurance fraud, and Autonet is one of the first brokers to use such a service.

Callcredit Welcomes Publication of Audit Commission Survey

Callcredit welcomes the publication by the Audit Commission of its annual survey into detected fraud amongst councils as an important part of the strategy needed to eradicate public sector fraud. The survey’s results, contained in a report entitled ‘Protecting the Public Purse’ show that fraud detection rates by councils have improved by 37 per cent on last year and which have detected over £185million in fraud-related activities.

The annual survey, conducted by the Audit Commissions National Fraud Initiative, creates a much needed public debate and casts much needed scrutiny on a subject that creates significant social hardship as well as increase financial costs. These include preventing lawful tenants from occupying social housing accommodation and fraudulently diverting payments away from adult care recipients.
