A new disposable credit card, due to be launched in the UK in the next twelve months, is already proving a roaring success in Ireland.
Over 10,000 people from across the Irish Sea have now registered for the "3V" disposable Visa card, which allows people to buy product over the internet without owning a regular piece of plastic.
The cards operate much in the same was as mobile phone top-up cards, with pre-paid credit of between €20 and €350 available from shops and petrol stations. Permanent TSB have launched the Irish version of the card and say that 400 people are signing up for the service each day.
This innovative new product could impact positively upon credit card fraud in the UK when it reaches these shores, as it is deemed ideal for people who do not feel secure in providing their card details over the telephone or internet.
Pre-payment also cuts out the possibility of credit card debt, making the option seem all the more advisable for those who are financially stretched.
As well as the UK, 18 other countries are expected to be benefiting from the new card in 2006.
