People will seek financial help on the internet before looking anywhere else, reveals a new survey.
Around a quarter of the 25 to 64-year-olds asked in the survey carried out for IFA Promotion said that they would first look for information online when they needed advice about finances.
A bank or building society would be the first port of call for 22 per cent of those who needed help managing their money, while 20 per cent would head to a high street Independent Financial Advisor.
Friends and family were not a trusted source of help, with only 16 per cent of respondents saying that they would ask them where to get the best advice and only one per cent would look in the phone book.
"This is further proof, if proof were still needed, that consumers turn first to the internet to research financial matters, just as they do for their holidays or a new job," commented chief executive of IFA Promotion, David Elms.
Those looking for help in dealing with their finances online should first order their credit report and find out where they stand financially.
