Apacs updates credit card advice

17 May 2006

British payments association Apacs has updated its credit card advice website.

The website, which was launched last year, aims to offer advice to consumers when choosing and using a credit card, providing information on a number of credit card features.

Information and advice is included on managing money, the benefits and risks of credit cards, credit card terminology and what help is available for people who are struggling with repayments.

Apacs believes that although 82 per cent of credit card holders say that they understand the costs and charges on their card and 89 per cent manage their cards responsibly, there are still people who would benefit from further information.

"Over the past year www.choosingandusing.com has not only made valuable impartial advice available to many thousands of consumers but also third parties offering consumer advice," commented director of communications at Apacs, Sandra Quinn.

"In fact visitor feedback has really helped us with many of the changes we are launching today and we hope this additional and updated information will ensure it's useful to many more people."

Among the new information provided for consumers is an explanation of how interest is calculated, advice on how to understand your statement, information on chip and pin and information on identity fraud.

If you have missed any credit card repayments your credit rating may be damaged. Order your credit file now and find out.
